Karyna Gomes, a singer, songwriter, and performer from Guinea-Bissau, is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Guinean music. As a singer, songwriter, and performer, she crafts a musical language deeply rooted in the traditions of Guinea-Bissau—such as gumbé and tina—while engaging with global sounds like soul, rumba, MPB, and Haitian kompa.
Singing in Kriol, Karyna affirms music as a space for freedom, identity, and experimentation.
At the height of her artistic maturity, her work reflects a conscious, daring journey that remains true to her roots, where her voice emerges as an instrument of memory, resistance, and creation.
The new album by Karyna Gomes—affectionately called “mana Ká” by her quartet—is an authentic expression of Guinean music, recorded live on tape and marked by an organic, intimate, and genuine approach.
The project features special collaborations with Micas Cabral (Tabanka Djaz) and Alana Sinkëy, a Guinean singer based in Madrid, highlighting not only Karyna Gomes’s musical richness but also her artistic boldness at a more mature stage of her career.
