Idiotape são um premiado trio eletrónico sul-coreano, Idiotape, formado em 2008 em Seul. Produtor e sintetizador Dguru, que também é um DJ altamente respeitado na Coreia, e o sintetizador Zeze uniram-se com o objetivo simples de fazer “música divertida e agradável”. Originalmente completado por um guitarrista, que optou por sair, o baterista DR (anteriormente do pop-punk / pop-rock de Seul Sugar Donut) foi contratado no início de 2010.
Influenciados pelo rock clássico coreano dos anos 1960 e 1970, ritmos e performances eletrizantes rapidamente os ajudaram a subir na cena eletrónica e indie de Seul. Em setembro de 2009, o grupo ganhou um convite para tocar na edição coreana do mundialmente famoso festival Global Gathering – um feito notável considerando que estavam a fazer música juntos há pouco mais de um ano. Em julho de 2010, Idiotape lançaram o seu EP de estreia “0805”. Enquanto apoiava o EP, o grupo embarcou numa tour norte-americana em março de 2011 para tocar na Canadian Music Week (CMW) e South by South West (SXSW). Recebendo ótimas críticas em ambos os eventos, o jornal Toronto Star destacou-os no seu encerramento da CMW “Nove atos que se destacaram do pacote”. Naquele verão, os Idiotape apresentaram-se em dois dos maiores eventos musicais do Leste Asiático, o Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival na Coreia e o Summer Sonic no Japão.
Em novembro de 2011, Idiotape lançaram o seu primeiro LP, “11111101”. O álbum recebeu elogios da crítica nacional e internacional e ganhou o prémio de "Melhor Álbum Dance e Eletrónico" no Korean Music Awards de 2012. Tocaram em vários eventos de alto nível nesse mesmo ano, incluindo o Seoul Electronic Music Festival, o Jisan Valley Rock Festival e o Sonic Mania no Japão. Em março de 2013, o grupo apareceu no Future Music Festival Asia na Malásia. Em abril, o remix de Idiotape da faixa “Ice Cream” do popular grupo de K-pop f(x) apareceu no EP de compilação “10 Cc X SM Seoul Melody”. E em outubro de 2013, o trio fez sua quarta aparição no Global Gathering Korea.
Em janeiro de 2014, abriram para Phoenix em Seul, e em março eles a sua segunda aparição no SXSW.
2015 viu IDIOTAPE embarcar na sua primeira tour pela Europa, apresentando-se no a.o. Glastonbury, Fusion, Exit, FMM, Techno Parade, Lille 300 e terminando o ano no Trans Musicales em Rennes.
O álbum cover RE foi lançado em abril de 2016 pela Universal Korea.
Em 2017 lançaram o seu novo álbum completo Dystopian e lideram festivais coreanos com Chemical Brothers e Foo Fighters. Também se apresentaram no festival Reeperbahn em Hamburgo e BAM/La Merce em Barcelona numas Ramblas lotada.

South Korean electronic trio Idiotape formed in 2008 in Seoul. Producer and synthesizer player Dguru, who is also a highly-respected DJ in Korea, and synthesizer player Zeze teamed up with the simple goal of making “fun and enjoyable music”. Drummer DR (formerly of Seoul pop-punk / pop-rock act Sugar Donut) was brought on board in early 2010.
Influenced by Korean classic rock from the 1960s and ‘70s, Idiotape’s dynamic, synth-driven rhythms and electrifying performances quickly helped them to climb the ranks in Seoul’s electronic and indie music scenes. In September 2009, the group earned an invite to play at the Korean edition of the world-famous Global Gathering festival – a remarkable feat considering they had been making music together for just over a year. In July 2010, Idiotape issued their debut 0805 EP. Whilst presenting the EP, the group embarked on a North American tour in March 2011 to play at Canadian Music Week (CMW) and South by South West (SXSW). Garnering rave reviews at both events, the Toronto Star newspaper highlighted them in their “Nine acts that stood out from the pack” CMW wrap-up. That summer, Idiotape performed at two of East Asia’s biggest music outings, Korea’s Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival and Japan’s Summer Sonic.
In 2014, Idiotape opened for Phoenix in Seoul, and made their second appearance at SXSW and released their latest album Tours, which brims with more of their fantastic, infectious EDM.
2015 saw IDIOTAPE embark on their first European tour, performing at a.o. Glastonbury, Fusion, Exit, FMM, Techno Parade, Lille 300 and ending the year at Trans Musicales in Rennes. And in April 2016 The cover album RE was released by Universal Korea.
In 2017, Idiotape released their new album “Dystopian”, and coheadlined many Korean festivals with the Chemical Brothers and the Foo Fighters. They also performed at Reeperbahn festival in Hamburg and BAM/La Merce in Barcelona on a packed Ramblas.
